ABSTRACT
Compared to for example hardware, software reliability engineering is a relatively new area with a limited track record of applied methodologies and best practices in today’s industrial embedded software systems. It is often accepted that a software system contains bugs after release. At the same time these software systems become more and more complex, to fulfill market requirements like increasing variability and flexibility.
This presentation will show software reliability issues faced at Philips Healthcare – BU Components, and a practical approach that has been applied to start improving software reliability, including a first attempt to forecast it. I will show concrete examples of implemented software reliability techniques. A software reliability trend has been built up and the effect of the applied reliability improvement will be shown.
